Five pupils were injured on Friday morning injured after police lob teargas in Meru Primary School to disperse demonstrators who were protesting against Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.
Head teacher Eva Gichuri said police lobbed for teargas canisters in the Meru Primary School.
“The demonstration are affecting teachers and innocent pupils yet we are not part of it. I have called the authorities and they have confirmed it was not intentional,” Gichuru said.
Gichuru said all staff and pupils wept and only five had to be taken to hospital but they are okay after sustaining minor injuries.
She said one canister was lobbied in class while another broke windows while two were found on the field.
The incident occurred after a group of demonstrators jumped through the fence and she asked watchman to throw them out to avoid more harm to the pupils.
"we need peace in Meru the pupils were in classroom learning they dont know what is politics," Gichuru.
