More than 2000 families displaced by floods owing to heavy rains in Ilchamus ward, Marigat Baringo South.

Hundreds of hecres of crop farms have also been destroyed in Lorobil, Sibtaan, Leswa, and Longewan villages.

"At least four schools have also submerged and learning cut off by the floods," resident Lawrence Ole Tokei said on Tuesday.

He further said Kabikoki and Salabani areas have been marooned by surging Lake Baringo waters, forcing farmers to use boats to harvest and ferry maize to the mainland.

"Tomato farms are also at risk of rotting if rains persist, leaving farmers to count losss of millions of money and unpaid bank loans," Tokei said.

Residents however appeal to government and well-wishers to urgently offer them humanitarian help.

So far, Kenya Red-Cross and the county government of Baringo have donated some foodstuff and assorted items to cushion the victims.

"More is needed to be done to resettle the affected population," Tokei said.
