Lake Turkana Flood Victims Receive Non-Food Items Donation

In response to rising water levels in Lake Turkana, the county Government offers essential support in collaboration with Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH).

Through the distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs), hundreds of households in Namukuse and Long'ech, situated in Kangatotha Ward, Turkana Central, received donations.

The initiative aimed at enhancing water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH) standards while reducing exposure to waterborne diseases, and addressing the immediate needs of the displaced population.

Among the items distributed are water storage tanks, water purifying tablets, soap, sanitary towels, and buckets.

These supplies will help in safeguarding the health and well-being of individuals facing challenges caused by floods.

The distribution of water storage tanks will ensure access to safe and clean water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation purposes.

Combined with water purifying tablets, this intervention will not only address immediate hydration needs but also help prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses, which often escalate in flood-affected neighbourhoods. 

Additionally, the provision of hygiene and sanitation items such as soap, sanitary towels, and buckets contributes significantly to maintaining proper hygiene practices, particularly in expedient shelters, where access to facilities may be limited.
