Two dangerous crocodiles spotted perching on stones along river Perkerra

Fear has gripped Marigat after two large crocodiles were spotted stone-perching at Perkerra River just downstream of Marigat Bridge, Baringo South.

As clearly seen in this photo taken on Saturday, the two hungry reptiles are lying side by side on a rock at the water's edge, perfectly camouflaged against the stones, with their jaws wide open.

Their size and proximity to the bank have sent shockwaves among residents who use the river daily. The spot is popular for bathing, swimming, fetching water, washing clothes and washing vehicles and motorbikes.

Many school children also swim there in the evenings. The crocodiles are believed to have fled from the nearby Lake Baringo, which is just a few kilometres away.

Lake Baringo is infested with crocodiles and hippos, and it is common for them to move upstream along Perkerra River during this season.

Residents are now being warned to keep off the river completely.

-No bathing or swimming - No washing vehicles or boda bodas at the bridge

-No fetching water at dawn or dusk

-Parents asked to keep children away from the river bank.

Locals are calling on Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Baringo County emergency officers to urgently intervene and drive the animals back to the lake before they attack.

Until KWS clears the area, treat that stretch of Perkerra River as a no-go zone. One mistake could be fatal.
