Young people have been encouraged to start considering sports as a career that can see them earn a decent living.

The Manda Shivanga ward MCA David Kivishi while hosting his 7th edition super cup at Tombo grounds, the leader stressed the need for the embracing of extra curriculum activities by the youths as it was the next highest global income earner.

The super Mca who is on record for being the only Mca to organize many consistent tournaments in his ward considering that he is only serving his first term as the area Mca, said sports was paying hugely and should be taken serious by both the parents and their siblings and that the young people should with various talents be encouraged to exploit them fully.

Kivishi said through sports he was able to bring together the communities, its youths and uplift the livelihood of the participants by awarding them with a token of appreciation ranging from cash Prizes, trophies, balls, uniforms and boots. 

“This year I graced my tournament ‘duped David Kivishi super cup 7Th edition’, I had the privilege to host Presidential aide Farouk Kibet and Malava Mp David Ndakwa, Speaker of the county assembly of Kakamega who unanimously stood by me by adding their donations to my cash prizes for the teams who participated in the finals and I’m grateful for their generous support towards uplifting the sporting standards of our young generation” He said

He added that through sports talent was tapped and nurtured as part of the journey to steer the youths to stardom.

“Let us take sports seriously and not discourage our children who have shown interest in whatever category not to pursue it as it could be their life changing career away from the normal classroom studies” he advised.

The Mca stated that his continued support to host the tournament was due to the positive impact it has brought in the lives of the young people with many who were addicted to drug and substance abuse reforming and turning to sports as an alternative entertainment and source of income too.

He advised those with talents and innovations to come forward and display them so that they can be molded fully.

“Besides the games we also are encouraging the registration of the young people who have attained the age of 18 to apply for their identification cards, offering social health authority (SHA) registration for those who have not and free medical camp for the community as part of bringing services closer to them”

During the event, finals featured Manyonje FC of Butali Chegulo ward against Ingwe FC from West Kabras Ward, with Manyonje edging out Ingwe 1–0 and pocketing over Ksh.500, 000, 3balls, full uniform kit and boots plus a trophy.

Also at the event was Presidential aide Farouk Kibet Kibet who encouraged more youngsters to come out and showcase their talent as he called for a wider tournament where teams from the ward could play with other teams from the neighboring Nandi County in the next scheduled tournament. 

He also used the occasion to emphasize the importance of empowering youth through sports as a key pillar of community development.

Kibet donated Ksh. 200,000 towards the winning team and Ksh.150, 000 to the runners up respectively with Malava Mp David Ndakwa giving out Ksh.50, 000 each to the two teams as the Kakamega county speaker James Wamatsi also following suit by donating Ksh.10, 000 each for the teams.

A total of 98 teams across the constituency participated in the tournament.
