Meru woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia disburses scholarship funds worth sh8.8million to 374 bright but needy students.

The beneficiaries are in Form One to Form Four in various schools across the county.

“I have been giving a lot of money to women groups, but now we will also diversify and give to youths, especially those who are pursuing their education and need financial help," she said.

She spoke on Monday at her office in Meru where she issued a dummy cheque to the students.

Kailemia also distributed Sh20million to different women and youth groups.

She said her office will not tolerate corrupt officers who demand cash from residents in order to give services like filing of forms to apply bursaries and other grants.

“I have warned all my staff that I will not tolerate corruption and residents seeking services should not spend a single coin to access the forms.

Anyone who will be caught will be arrested and prosecuted" Kailemia said.

The Woman Rep also bought washing machines for youths to be used in car wash businesses, umbrellas for Mama Mboga and tents among other items that would assist members of various groups in their businesses.

Kailemia urged with the Meru County and National Governments to build more wards in hospitals and employ psychiatrists to take care of mental health cases which were on the rise in the county.

“We will continue conducting awareness campaigns for mental health in the near future I will initiate a girls’ football tournament in all the wards with the purpose of creating mental wellness in the society” Kailemia said.

Kailemia lauded President William Ruto administration for increase funds in the National Government Affirmative Funds.

She said more money will now be mooted to help the less fortunate in the society.
