Mudavadi Meets Malava Teachers to Discuss Issues Affecting Education

Teachers drawn from Malava constituency today paid a courtesy call to prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi where they discussed various issues affecting education in the schools.

Led by Kakamega North Kenya national union of teachers (KNUT) Chairperson Simon Sindani, his Kenya secondary heads association (KESHA) vice chairperson Dan Masitsa, and KNUT Treasurer and National executive member Western region Emily Mito, the delegation presented a well-structured memorandum outlining key areas where they seek support from the national government to strengthen education outcomes in their region.

“I spent a deeply engaging afternoon with over 70 dedicated teachers from Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, who visited my office in Nairobi for a candid and insightful exchange of ideas” he said.

Mudavadi said their discussion centered on the need to need to improve infrastructure in several institutions, including the newly elevated Shamberere National polytechnic (Tuition Block), Manyonje secondary school (laboratory), Matioli secondary school (administration block), Tande secondary school (classrooms), and a complete overhaul of Matsakha secondary school, among others.

The school managers also highlighted the pressing need for additional classrooms in Chevoso, Ingavira, Lurale, and Shivikhwa comprehensive schools, the construction of an ICT Centre at Lunyu comprehensive school, and an administration block at Muriola comprehensive school. 

Musalia stated that teachers are the stewards of knowledge, conscience, and societal values and henced had agreed to work in close collaboration to uplift education standards, improve learning environments, and enhance the wellbeing of both the young and elderly populations of Malava, and indeed the broader Western Kenya region, as we shape a more inclusive national future.

Mudavadi who was joined by higher education Principal secretary Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, MPs Hon. Fred Ikana (Shinyalu) and Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga women rep ), director of the insurance regulatory authority Immaculate Shamala, chief of staff Joseph Busiega, Principal administrative secretary Juliana Yiapan at the office of the prime cabinet secretary (OPCS), secretary administration Tom Anjere (OPCS), along with other senior government officials and grassroots leaders from Malava constituency. 

The teachers expressed hope that the government will move with speed to facelift the schools highlighted to allow conducive learning.
