The principal secretary state department for higher education and research Dr. Beatrice Inyangala has launched a five day sensitization tour for university funding model within Kakamega County.

The nationwide government's higher education financing and student support sensitization programme, kicked off at Malava friends church, reaffirming the ministry of education's commitment to ensuring that no deserving student is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.

The sensitization programme is being implemented by the State department for higher education in collaboration with the higher education loans board (HELB), the universities fund (UF), and the Kenya universities and colleges central placement service (KUCCPS).

The initiative brought together students, parents, teachers, education stakeholders, and local leaders to deepen public understanding of higher education opportunities and the support available to learners transitioning to universities and TVET institutions was a reprieve to many considering that many students and parents did not understand how the funding models works and how to go about it.

During the exercise the participants were enlightened on practical guidance on University and TVET placement through KUCCPS, choosing the right career pathway, student financing opportunities, application procedures for placement and financial support, one-on-one guidance from higher education experts to address individual questions and concerns.

The nationwide outreach is designed to provide accurate information, address emerging concerns, and ensure that every eligible learner and family is empowered to make informed decisions about higher education opportunities and financing.

The State department, together with HELB, UF, and KUCCPS, is committed to taking this sensitization campaign to all 47 counties, ensuring that no region is left behind and that every prospective student has access to timely, accurate, and reliable information on placement, financing, and student support services.

The programme underscores the Government's unwavering commitment to expanding equitable access to quality tertiary education, investing in Kenya's human capital, and empowering young people with the knowledge and support needed to realize their academic aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the country's socio-economic transformation under the bottom-up economic transformation agenda (BETA).

According to the PS, the engagement reflects the government's dedication to promoting higher learning education through empowering young people to achieve their academic aspirations, and investing in a skilled workforce that will drive Kenya's future development.

She said with such information being disseminated to the students and other education stakeholders to enable more learners access education at the tertiary and university level.

From Malava the caravan will tour Navakholo, Ingotse, Eshisiru and later Butsotso South respectively.
