We Won't Take Anything Less, KUPPET says in Protests
Kuppet members protest in Kericho

By Abiud Kipkirui

As schools open for third term, Kenya Union Post Primary Education Teachers(KUPPET) Kericho branch took to the streets to address their plights.

Led by County Kuppet Executive Secretary Mary Rotich and Chairman Kibet Jona Korir they said they have suffered enough in the hands of their employer, Teachers Service Commission(TSC).

"Enough is enough, we cannot agree to continue suffering any longer. We will protest until all our issues are settled" Rotich said.

She accusws TSC for taking too long to fully implement their 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement(CBA).

"I want to tell TSC we cannot be blackmailed or intimidated, the amount you are giving us in that CBA is very little you were suppose to implement without us asking for it" Rotich said.

She said the 130,000 teachers who have stagnated in one job group for long, to be promoted.

Kibet further asked TSC to employ the 46, 000 intern teachers.

"It is part our grevancies to urge TSC to confirm the junior Secondary School teachers interns under permanent and pensionable terms" he said.

He says it seems it has become the norm for citizens of Kenya to engage in protests to have their needs addressed by the government.

On Sunday evening, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) called off their strike and asked its members to get to class and teach.
