Over 1000 acres of land belonging to Egerton University, Chemeron campus in Marigat, Baringo South under siege, currently charcoal burners invading and massively felling down indigenous trees.

If the situation is left unaddressed, then a wild desertification covering the entire land shall soon be announced.

Although the ground, if all goes well, is earmarked to host imminent Baringo County University.

Currently, apart from housing wild animals, the forest cover protects seasonal streams serving the surrounding communities and channelling water to silted and abandoned Chemeron water dam.

The allocation of land dates back to the former Kanu regime headed by the late president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.

The government is, therefore called upon, to urgently intervene to arrest the situation.
