Kakamega County Rolls out Bedding distributions to Special needs learners

Special needs learners across Kakamega have every reason smile after county government rolled out county wide distribution of bedding to them.
Through the department of social services, sports, youth, gender, and culture, the exercise is expected to take place in all the 12 sub counties within Kakamega County.
Speaking while flagging off the exercise, the county committee executive member (CECM) in charge of the docket Jackline Masicha, stated that the exercise was to give the learners hope and love to enable them feel appreciated and cared for like any other learners within.
Learners admire some of the beddings brought to them.
At the same time she cautioned parents against segregating their disabled children as they had equal opportunities too that should awarded to them.
“Our Kenyan constitution has not secluded has persons living with disabilities PLWD’s including learners and hence should be given equal rights including the righto shelter food and education” she uttered.
She encouraged parents to present their disabled children so as to have them be identified to benefit from government support, including access to assistive devices.
Masicha observed that despite the learners having disability challenges many have excelled in their academics and were competing fairly with the normal ones in the job market.
The three day initiative has kicked off at Siyombe primary special unit in Navakholo, where 15 learners with disabilities will benefit, then after they will be proceeding to Lung'anyiro school for the disabled in Matungu, Sunrise school in Mumias West, and Rise and Shine school in Mumias East.
The distribution will also target Mukhonje special school in Shinyalu, Busilwa special school for the mentally handicapped in Ikolomani, Ematundu special needs in Khwisero, and Butere mental school in Butere.

The culmination of the distribution exercisel visited Kakamega school for the deaf in Lurambi, Malava special primary school in Malava, Mukuyu special school in Lugari, and Vincent de Paul special school in Likuyani
This support program is aligned with Governor Fernandez Barasa’s manifesto, which prioritizes inclusive education and ensures that every learner enjoys their right to quality learning and dignity.
Also present during the distribution was the director of culture, Gaudencia Otipa, among other senior officials.
