On the sidelines of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment debate at Bomas of Kenya, activist Morara Kebaso was caught in the crosshairs of the chaos that erupted on October 4, 2024.

The ugly incident occurred amid a public participation event meant to ratify or nullify the DP's impeachment motion.

Morara shared his devastation on X, stating, “I was barred from entering Bomas at the gate.

Morara Kebaso attacked by goons at the Bomas of Kenya.

When I finally got in, I was denied the mic at BOMAS floor. Chaos erupted. I am hurt. Headed to hospital. I live to speak another day.” Following a press briefing by his family, they expressed their displeasure about the attack.

They have pointed the finger at the security personnel and legislators at the public participation occasion. The family has urged the government to investigate the incident and arrest the assaulters.

However, the move by his family has been criticized by the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kileleshwa, Robert Alai.

He has denounced the family’s haste to air their views.

He noted, “Why the rush to media at this stage when the young man is clearly sick?” Morara has addressed the ordeal, terming it a clear indicator of the misplaced priorities regarding public participation.

He has aligned his claims, dubbing the occasion an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) event.

“The expectation that we have when we go for public participation is that every person’s voice counts. But it seems I was not welcome at the ODM-organized event,” he said.

The lawyer-cum-activist has hinted at a prior planning of the attack, pointing at a few tell-tell signs that he regrettably ignored.

“It is now that I’m going through memory to see where I got it wrong, and I think there were enough red flags that should have seen but I didn’t,” he said.

Morara additionally backed his words with his erstwhile announcement that he would be at the event, and his take was clear as day.

“I had announced that I would go for public participation on my Twitter (X) and TikTok. I had said my position is we impeach both the President and the Deputy President,” he stated.

He has pointed at the event’s MC, Ruaraka Member of Parliament (MP) TJ Kajwang'.

He claims the whole ordeal was planned and executed under Kajwang’s hand.

He has also roped in MP for Dagoretti North, Beatrice Elachi, and Makadara MP, George Aladwa.

Despite sustaining injuries on his head, neck and one leg, Morara has underscored his faith and motivation, thanking the medical attention he received at Nairobi Hospital.

“I am happy that I am alive, that I don’t have any permanent injuries. Actually, I am back in circulation,” he stressed.
