A recent audit by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu has uncovered irregularities in Garrisa university revenue collection methods, raising questions about its management practices.

The audit revealed that the university has been using unapproved systems such as mobile money platforms to collect tuition fees.

According to the Auditor General, this practice contravenes the university 2018 fee policy which stipulates that students should pay fees through designated bank accounts.

"The regularity of mobile money as mode of receiving revenue could not be confirmed" Gathungu stated , emphasising that the use of mobile money lacks legal banking policy.

In addition to fee collection concerned audit highlighted governance issues at the institution . Gathungu noted Garrisa University operated without substantive vice- chancellor for six years instead, the cabinet secretary for education has been issuing six month renewable contracts to acting vice- chancellor during this period.

Prolonged absence of permanent Vice- chancellor raises questions about the stability and governance of the university potentially affecting strategic planning and operations.

The findings have sparked calls for reforms to ensure adherence to proper financial and administrative practices at the institution.
