Baringo Governor Cheboi Faces Impeachment

RTN Reporter

Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi faces impeachment for alleged violation of office. He is accused of gross violations of the Constitution, among them the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, the County Governments Act, 2012, and the Public Procurement Act, 2016.

The accusations were brought along in a petition proposed to the Baringo County Assembly by one concerned local by the name Jacob Kiplagat.

The petition highlights numerous allegations against Governor Cheboi, which includes the arbitrary employment of cohorts with doubtful credential, the misappropriation of allocations through illegal purchases of vehicles, and the failure to procure critical medical equipment for the county's healthcare facilities.

It also raises concerns about the Governor's disregard for procurement regulations and the negative impact on local service providers who have been left financially strained.

Furthermore, the petition accuses Governor Cheboi of ignoring calls to address matters within his administration, leading to a lack of accountability and transparency in governance.

The Auditor General's continuous reports of financial mismanagement and the neglect of crucial public services only add to the gravity of the situation.

The petitioner, Jacob Kiplagat, urges the County Assembly to take immediate action, including investigating the Governor's conduct, ensuring the employment of qualified individuals in public office, and enforcing disciplinary measures against those responsible for the violations.

The petition also calls for the removal of Governor Cheboi from office, citing serious reasons that warrant his dismissal.

The County Assembly is expected to meditate on the petition expeditiously and execute necessary actions to restore the confidence of the people of Baringo County.
