The Ethics and Anti-Corruption(EACC) has expressed concern over the lack of comprehensive legislation to protect whistle-blower in Kenya warning that this legal gap hampers effort to combat corruption effectively.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi emphasised that while Kenya has made notable strides in promoting whistleblowing challenges persist with the absence of substantive whistle-blower protection framework being the most significant impediment.

"Whistleblowing is a critical tool in fight against corruption, but without robust legal safeguards individuals are discouraged from coming forward due to fear of retaliation" Ngumbi said.

He urged the National assembly to expedite the ongoing process of enacting a whistle blower protection law which he said would empower more individuals to report corruption without fear.

Ngumbi acknowledged the role whistle-blower have played in exposing corruption cases in past but noted that lack of adequate legal protection leaves them vulnerable.

He also called for greater public awareness of the importance of whistleblowing in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
