Nakuru County's Department of Health mobilizes emergency comprehensive relief effort to aid rescue operation amid fatal Maai-Mahiu floods tragedy.
County Director for Health Administration and Planning Dr. Joy Mugambi said the department dispatched four advanced life support ambulances to the scene, initiating evacuation operations since 5:00am. on Monday.
"The ambulances and the medical response team have traversed the flood-ravaged areas, evacuating over 42 patients with minor injuries for prompt medical care at the Maai-Mahiu Hospital" Mugambi said.
She said severity of certain cases has seen other critical patients with fractures referred to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for specialized treatment.
The Department of Health has established an integrated response center at Obuntu, a mini clinic closer to the scene to centralize resources and streamline response efforts.
"We have mobilized all medical staff from surrounding health facilities to create a unified front in the provision of medical assistance and ensure a coordinated response," she said.
The officer spoke while receiving patients at the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital.
Healthcare workers of different disciplines are triaging patients and giving first-line care to stabilize them as they facilitate transfers to referral hospitals as necessary.
The Chief Officer for Public Health, Joyce Ncece, is currently on the ground coordinating the response efforts.
