Authorities kick-start plans to enhance safety of navigating water vessels around Lake Baringo.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi held a meeting with a delegation from the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) in his office on Monday.

This comes a few days after a boat carrying 19 youths to church service capsized, killing six.

"We delved into the critical aspects of ensuring seaworthiness of boats through regular inspection, licensing, surveying, and certification processes" Cheboi said.

He said they are keen as county government to collaborate with KMA, particularly in the comprehensive training of coxswains to elevate safety protocols.

KMA, however, pledged to donate a search and rescue boat to help bolster emergency response capabilities in Lake Baringo.
