Western Kenya’s political landscape was shaken on Thursday night after David Ndakwa delivered a resounding win in the Malava by-election, sending a clear and unmistakable message that Musalia Mudavadi is still the man to watch in Western politics.

The UDA victory did more than just flip a parliamentary seat, it re-established Mudavadi’s firm grip on the region’s politics and reaffirmed his influence as the Western region shot caller.

Prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi leads other dignitaries to campaign for UDA (now Malava Mp) David Ndakwa.

And in a double blow to his critics, Moses Wetang’ula’s FORD-Kenya candidate also stumbled in Kabuchai, further cementing Mudavadi’s position as the Western region’s most prominent and strategic political player in the recent past.

OPPONENTS PUTS ON NOTICE

Contrary to many who criticized the folding of Musalia's Amani national Congress ( ANC) to merge with the united democratic alliance ( UDA) the political gamble has fully paid off and those speculating that Mudavadi had struck the last nail on his political grave will have to think otherwise as the merger has proven to be more stronger and appealing to many Kenyans.

"For months, analysts and rivals questioned Mudavadi’s bold decision to dissolve ANC and merge with the ruling UDA. Some said it was political suicide. Others claimed he had surrendered his independence but Malava has now delivered the ultimate answer."

Ndakwa’s sweeping win proves Mudavadi read the terrain better than many gave him credit for.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s political arithmetic was sound, and Thursday’s results have silenced the naysayers who insisted he had miscalculated.

If there is a group that woke up uneasy today, it is Mudavadi’s loudest critics, Governor George Natembeya, Cleophas Malala, Senator Boni Khalwale, and others who have made Mudavadi a constant feature in their speeches.

For months, they invoked his name more often than they presented development plans but Malava has sent them a blunt message, you cannot ride to victory by chanting Mudavadi’s name without delivering tangible results.

The region’s voters are demanding real work, real accountability and real leadership, not endless rhetoric.

MUDAVADI’S RISING MOMENTUM AHEAD OF 2027

With back-to-back wins in his backyard and a tightening grip on Western Kenya’s political heartbeat, Mudavadi now re-emerges as a central figure to watch as the country heads into the 2027 general election cycle with President William Ruto being assured of the Mulembe nation massive following.

His influence, once doubted, is now undeniable. with his strategy, once questioned now validated as his momentum, once underestimated, is now accelerating. And as the political the dust settles in Malava and Kabuchai, one thing is clear, Musalia Mudavadi has re-etched his name at the centre of Western Kenya’s political future, and the entire country is watching closely.

And with David Ndakwa garnering 21564 against Seth Panyako's 20210 votes Malava has signed it's political space in the broad based government definitely.
