Tea farmers in Nyamira are set to reap huge benefits from their produce after an agreement was entered with a Chinese county aimed at widening production and marketing prospects.
The agreement that was signed by Governor Amos Nyaribo and officials from Songyang County in China laid down a comprehensive plan that will see the two entities collaborate effectively in exploring grounds for increasing marketability of tea through enhanced processing and value addition.
According to Governor Nyaribo, the two counties produce tea and an effective exchange on production, processing and marketing will open up a new front for the local tea which he said will be manufactured to international standards through enhanced value addition, something that will see it fetch higher prices that it is now.
The Governor noted that the collaboration is broader prospect for the upcoming Nyamira Integrated Agro-industrial Park whose completion is projected within the next one year.
The partnership, Nyaribo said, will culminate into establishment of a value addition industry at the industrial park mainly for further processing of tea produced by Nyamira farmers.
“The Chinese are willing to partner with us in improving the quality of our tea and according to what we have agreed, the Chinese will help us set up a value addition industry for our tea and this will benefit farmers a great deal,” Nyaribo said.
