More than 3000 families displaced by bandits in Baringo are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Victims among them women, children, elderly, sickly, and people with disabilities spending in makeshift tents in Baringo North and Baringo South sub-counties are in dire need of food, shelter, warm clothing, and drugs supplies.

"Regrettably due to constant distubance, all development activities are at a standstill, our people have not also managed to cultivate their farms this season, facing imminent harsh starvation," Saimo-Soi MCA Michael Chebon said, Friday. He said hundreds of families rendered

homeless were currently putting up in deplorable makeshift tents in various parts of Saimo-Soi and Bartabwa wards, Baringo North.

Chebon therefore appeals to well-wishers to urgently help donate food and nonfoodstuff to cushion the victims against hunger and cold-weather illnesses.

He lauded humanitarian agencies such as Kenya Red-Cross, County Government of Baringo, and some area professionals for donating some emergency tents, foodstuff, and utensils.

"Although more is still needed to cater for the increasing needs of the helpless victims," MCA said.

He was backed by his Bartabwa Ward counterpart David Sitoi, who said the situation still escalates despite the government deploying mult-agency security apparatus to patrol and pursue the armed criminals.

Learning is yet to resume in over 15 schools closed down last term owing to constant series of bandit attacks.

"We fear if the situation persists the affected schools might not open for second term, directly affecting the children's education," Sitoi said.

So far, since January, more than 10 people among them children were killed, thousands of livestock stolen and driven away by armed bandits towards the neighbouring Tiaty Sub-County.

Last week, Governor Benjamin Cheboi visited Moinonin Internally Displaced Persons camp in Saimo-Soi Ward and empathised with the victims.

"These individuals were driven away from their homes by the atrocities of banditry, now finding themselves here in a state of despair and destitution," Cheboi said.

He said the families are struggling to survive, children are going without proper education, and many are facing health challenges without access to adequate medical care.

"In the face of such adversity, it is imperative as a community, nation, and global citizens to offer our support.

He therefore appeals to partners, well-wishers, and donors of goodwill to extend a helping hand to these vulnerable individuals.

"Your humanitarian assistance can make a significant difference in their lives," he said.
