Opinion leader Erick Mutwiri says impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reveals a bad picture of President William Ruto’s regime.

Mutwiri from Meru, said the silence of President William Ruto in such a matter reveals a very bad picture.

“It is a shocking turn of events since Ruto earlier promised Kenyans he will not persecute his deputy like he was done by his former boss, Uhuru Kenyatta,” Mutwiri said.

Mutwiri, who unsuccessfully vied for North Imenti parliamentary seat, said President Ruto should have had a closed-door talk with his deputy to iron out issues than crucifying him publicly.

“If President Ruto saw the accusations made against Gachagua such like being a tribal leader affects national cohesion, he should have engaged him because conflicts are everywhere even in families,” Mutwiri said.

He said Ruto chose DP Gachagua despite many leaders rooting for Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to be his running mate.

“Gachagua’s impeachment is a clear indicator President Ruto has failed to put his house in order,” he said.

Mutwiri who is an economist by profession, further bashed the parliament for what he termed as being arm-twisted by the executive.

On Meru County leadership, he said Governor Kawira Mwangaza should simply reconcile with MCAs.

"The biggest burden of uniting the county lies squarely on her," he said.

He faulted Mwangaza for allegedly awarding tender of upgrading all roads to Mechanical Transport Fund (MTF) a state entity, "instead of engaging local contractors to ease circulation of money"
