The establishment of Nyamira County State University may take longer for it to be actualized following a court order challenging the proposed site.
Education abinet secretary Mr.Julius Migos Ogamba has said installation of the institution shall kick off as soon as those who have filed numerous cases in court challenging the proposed site withdrew.
"If they withdraw them even today, the ministry could start admitting the first patch of students immediately" Ogamba said.
He said the Commission of University Education (CUE) had identified Kiabonyoru high school as the ideal site of the university, but a clique of leaders moved to court to object the decision.
The CS made the remarks at Kenyoro Secondary school in North Mugirango constituency Tuesday where he graced the area Kisii cultural week where members of the public put him to task to explain why the project has delayed.
“The president when he toured the county six months ago announced that the site of the university be at Kiabonyoru high school based on the CUE experts report but again some leaders from this county moved to court challenging the decision “ he stated.
“So as a ministry, we have no choice but to respect the court order until the matter is determined" he added.
Area Mp Mr.Joash Nyamoko who accompanied the CS during the event, castigated a section of elected leaders from the county who had moved to court to block the establishment of the university at Kiabonyoru.
Among those who had moved to court to challenge Kiabonyoru as the ideal site of the university is the West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka.
“The establishment of the university is meant to assist our sons and daughters, but our leaders have now blocked their dreams" Nyamoko stated.
The CS also announced that KCSE examination will be released in the next second week of January this year as per the tradition.
He also encouraged students to join and enrol the open university, which offers online learning saying it was also offering effective service to other public and private universities.
On the new university model funding ,Ogamba said government will appeal against the court ruling, which outlawed it.
He also asked the parents of Nyamira county to deeply invest in the education of their children as that was the only permanent asset they could give them.
However, he said culture is a repository of knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes that enable communities to forge and preserve their identity.
"Culture is also a source of pride and a tool for younger generations to learn their traditions. There are many socio-economic benefits that come with remodelling culture into a vibrant tourism tool" Ogamba said.
