A determined Baringo youth who scored a mean grade of D (stand) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is now set to publish his ‘ Kiswahili ’ novels.
It has always become a common phenomenon in Kenya that anybody who scores grade D+ and below in KCSE has already failed horribly in life.
Sometimes, apart from being called names, like ‘academic dwarf’ or ‘slow learner’ just to mention a few, the candidate is also condemned to go and take low profile courses in the middle-level colleges or informal vocational skills in the village polytechnics.
But Mwinyi Kang’ngwony, 30 , has defied odds hoping to one day meet a sponsor to help him pursue his rear literature writing dream career, aiming to join a few intellectuals in the highly ucoveted arena of book publishing.
A young and ever smiling gentleman who hails from a sleepy Tiloi village in Ossen, Baringo North sat for his KCSE at Kilingot Day secondary school Baringo North in 2013.
He leaves nothing to regret, saying he is comfortable with his mean grade of D. (stand) and C. (stand in Kiwashili subject).
He says his humble background and numerous hardships their family encountered in meeting daily needs, including school fees summed up in pulling down his academic performance but not that he is a fool.
Despite financial challenges, Mwinyi hopes that one day he will get sponsorship to publish his two books entitled, 'PATU PATU ZA MAISHA' and ‘SOKA KISUNGUMGUTI' that he says could unearth challenges people face in daily lives and also help students improve their ‘ Kiswahili ’ subject.
When asked how he will manage to withstand the solid creativity needed to accomplish the task, Kang'wony smiled as he displayed over five A4 exercise books, filled with hand_written swahili stories which he said he only misses financial support to go ahead and publish them.
"In this word, one needs to be passionate and determined in pursuing their dreams, for them to be successful. there are people who have excelled in life, despite they never went to school and me too i am passionate about my dreams", said Kang'wony whose renowned author Wallah Bin Wallah is his role model.
Apart from book publishing Mwinyi also has an inborn passion in Journalism; he says if he had financial aid he could join the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) to pursue his media career.
