The Government of Kenya has designated Talai High School to host institution Moi Teachers Training College (Moi TTC), marking a significant step in opening gates for long awaited Baringo University.

The announcement was made earlier today by Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba during an official visit to Talai High School.

He was accompanied by Hon. Joshua Kandie, the area Member of Parliament, and Hon. Joseph Makilap, MP for Baringo North.

The CS confirmed that Talai's infrastructure meets the required standards and revealed that the government has allocated Ksh 100 million for infrastructure upgrades and the construction of additional academic facilities to support the transition.

This development comes in the wake of the recent establishment of the University of Baringo at the former Moi TTC site in Seretunin, which is currently undergoing a Ksh 30 million renovation.

The government reiterated its commitment to constructing the full-fledged University of Baringo, which is expected to serve as a regional hub for higher education and professional training.

“Talai High School has been earmarked for transformation into a fully-fledged training institution to meet the growing demand for teacher education and tertiary learning in the Rift Valley,” said Hon. Ogamba.

“We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and minimal disruption to current learners.”

As part of the transition plan, students currently enrolled at Talai High School will be relocated to neighboring schools within the constituency.

Hon. Makilap hailed the announcement as a milestone for the region: “This is a proud moment for Baringo North. Hosting Moi TTC—and soon the University of Baringo—elevates our status in the national education landscape and opens new opportunities for our youth.”

The move is seen as part of a broader government strategy to decentralize tertiary education, bringing institutions closer to underserved communities and expanding access to quality learning across the country.
