Rashid Echesa, former Sports Cabinet Secretary, will spend a long weekend in police jail after being detained on extortion charges against Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

Echesa, who was detained at the Muthaiga Police Station after being arrested on Thursday afternoon, will appear in court on Tuesday after police refused to release him on bond.

His lawyer, Danstan Omari, stated that Echesa is in police custody for alleged extortion, cybercrime bullying, and stage-managing an abduction.

The former CS, who is also the current Chairman of the Kenya Water Towers Agency (KWTA), was escorted to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Kiambu Road and questioned for hours.

According to the cops, Echesa has been eluding arrest and interrogation over the accusations and potential prosecution.
