President Ruto launches construction of University of Kabianga Medical School in Kericho Town

Construction of University of Kabianga Medical Training and Medical College in Kericho town is set to kick off after President William Ruto launched while he wrapped up his 4-Day Development county tour on Saturday.

Addressing the Public Ruto said the government has injected sh.1 billion for the construction of the institution, which aims to provide capacity training for students pursuing Medical-related fields, boosting the medical sector.

"By coming up with the facility will go hand in hand to provide medical personnel, boosting healthcare system across the county," he said.

He called upon the contractor to fast-track works to meet the timeline for the infrastructure to be in use.

The Head of State further said upon completion, the project will not only promote medical capacities but also create job opportunities to boost the country's economy.

Also, Kericho and Londiani County Refferal Hospitals are among the health facilities to be constructed in the county to provide medical attention to the public.

"We will build new medical facilities in Kericho and Londiani Refferal hospitals, which will begin soon to curb expenses of members of public always travel far to get medical attention" he said.

The President emphasized that the provision of the University of Kabianga Medical School will most importantly ensure experts are recruited to promote the health sector.

University of Kabianga has undergone various transitions where in 1925 it started as Government school and 1929-1963 it opperated as Kabianga Teachers Training College before was it was relocated to current Kericho Teachers Training College.

The institution later in 1959 was established as Kabianga Farmers training centre to train Agricultural Extension Officers and other farming inputs.

In 2007, it became a campus of Moi University. In 2009, the institution was elevated to be Kabianga University College, and in 2013, it was fully chartered to become an independent university.

President Ruto launches Chelimo Kericho town road in Chelimo area on Saturday 

President Ruto also said the government has invested in building affordable housing where in First Phase a total of 2,200 units set to be constructed and next Phase 5000 units will be constructed. 

Special Economic Zone (SEZ) programme was also launched in Chelimo area to attract more investors to the region, and to ease transport system, President Ruto also launched the tarmacking of Kericho town-Chelimo road.
