Baringo South Mochongoi evictees spent in the cold

Residents of Kapmaasai and Ng'atipkong villages of Kapnarok sub-location in Mochongoi, Baringo South are spending in the cold after Kenya Forest Service(KFS) defied court order to demolish their 20 households.

An elder Geoffrey Laktano said they have got nowhere to move to after KFS landed to mercilessly scater their homes, displacing them on Tuesday.

"This is where we have called home for many years, and we don't have another place to run to if we're thrown out," Laktano said.

However, the Environment and Land Court at Nanyuki earlier on issued an order dated 5th June 2024 restricting KFS from taking any further action in a manner of interfering with the status quo as at 16th May 2024, prevailing in Mochongoi settlement scheme located in both Marmanet forest and Ol' Arabel forest until the suit is heard and determined.

KFS allegedly assumed the above court order and went ahead to issue an eviction letter dated 7th October 2025. Through their lawyer Nderitu Komu and advocates, the affected residents deny the order with protest, terming it a plain contempt of court.

"This directive is contrary to the orders of the court and will amount to contempt of court," lawyer stated in a response letter.
