The community of Talai location in Baringo Central now demands back Talai High School, which was recently collapsed, students transferred to accommodate Baringo Teachers Training College.

The move was neccesitated by the interest to place allow students of newly established county's Kabarnet University College to occupy the old premises of Moi Teachers College Seretunin.

"Although we appreciate the takeover of the teachers college, but we can never afford to lose our secondary school which was established over 55 years ago," an elder told a public gathering recently.

They, however, came out guns blazing, demanding calling upon the government and ministry of education to fasten restoration of disbanded Talai High School.

They spoke in a meeting held at Talai attended by over 60 elders, professionals and community leaders.

"We hereby unanimously condemn those individuals sending negative signals about restoration of our school which has for years produced many professionals both from Baringo and beyond."

Area Senior Chief, Thomas Chepyegon, while chairing meeting, said the community wants the school to be relocated to an 8 acre piece of land next to Talai primary school.

"They want nothing less than a win-win solution in order to rest their burning hearts and minds," he said.

They said they can never tolerate the issue of suspending the school completely for whatever reasons. Instead, want senior secondary school students enrolled from January 2026 without fail.

The meeting brought together elders, professionals and local leaders

"No one whatsoever will come to burry our great school while we are still alive," they declared.

They also said all assets of Talai High School, both moveable and immovable, must remain intact in safe custody, and nothing shall be moved anywhere.

They sadly noted there seems to be no hurry by the authorities to restore back the school, despite their several appeals.

They pointed out that when Moi teachers college came to Seretunin during late president Moi era Kapkawa secondary school and Seretunin primary schools were not swallowed but instead they were strengthened, "hence government should not apply animosity to our own Talai High School," an elder said.

Recently, all over 600 students students in the school were transferred to various schools within Baringo, and the school administration plus KCSE candidates were moved to Kituro High School.

A committee that was appointed to urgently follow up on the issue with the relevant authorities is yet to conclude and submit their feedback while time is racing ahead of 2026 academic year.
