Residents of Malava have lauded President William Ruto for his continued support in strengthening the education sector.

The President addressed the public during the launch of several key development projects aimed at improving learning and training opportunities in the region.

During his visit, President Ruto officially commissioned the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Malava Campus, which will provide opportunities for students pursuing courses in nursing, medical engineering, and other health-related fields.

He urged parents and the community to continue supporting the education of the girl child, emphasizing that girls should be empowered through education to reduce vulnerability and promote equality in society.

Recognizing the growing importance of technology in education, the President also promised in two months to open up ICT hub to enable students to conduct research more efficiently and affordably.

The facility is expected to reduce the cost of internet access for learners. President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to producing well-rounded students equipped with both academic and practical skills.

So far, about 300 new students have been enrolled at the KMTC Malava Campus. In addition, KSh 110 million has been allocated for the construction of new hostels to accommodate the growing student population.

Shamberere National Polytechnic is among the institutions that have benefited from these new facilities.

The Head of State also pledged to provide a college bus worth approximately KSh 5 million to facilitate student transport for practical sessions and industrial attachments.

To support further infrastructure development, the Malava NG-CDF has set aside KSh 90 million for ongoing projects.

The KMTC is expected to greatly benefit the local community, particularly Malava Level 4 Hospital, as students will undertake their clinical practice in nearby hospitals, dispensaries, and health centers.

The event was also graced by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, CoTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and other leaders drawn from the region.
