President Ruto Unveils Housing Initiative for Security Forces

In a significant move to enhance the living conditions of Kenya's security personnel, President William Ruto has announced that the government will allocate 20% of housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme specifically for members of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, the National Youth Service, and the Kenya Prisons Service.
Speaking during the official opening and handover of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Police Housing Complex in Industrial Area, Ruto emphasized the initiative as a key example of successful partnerships between government institutions.
“These disciplined officers will benefit from single-digit interest rate credit facilities — as low as 3% a year — to increase home ownership,” he stated.
The CBK Police Housing Complex, a product of collaboration between the Central Bank of Kenya and the National Police Service, features 210 fully furnished units, including 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom apartments.
This modern facility is not just about providing housing; it also includes essential amenities like a gymnasium and a daycare center, reflecting a commitment to high-quality living standards for police officers.
Ruto praised the partnership as a milestone in restoring the pride and dignity of police officers, many of whom have historically faced substandard living conditions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving the welfare of security personnel and ensuring they have access to decent housing.
The completion of the CBK Police Housing Complex follows a Memorandum of Understanding that has also led to the establishment of important projects like the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’, which serves as a premier training institution for police commanders.
President Ruto’s vision for affordable housing, particularly for those serving the nation, marks a significant step towards fostering a more equitable society, where every Kenyan can enjoy a dignified living environment.
