There is need for national treasury to swiftly release county funds on time to enhance development.
Most projects within counties are yet to be completed due to late releasing of counties funds by the national treasury.
Kakamega county governor Fernandez Barasa urges national government to enhance faster transition of county funds from the treasury to enable counties initiate its various projects and pay its suppliers workers and contractors.
Barasa spoke when he joined other faithful at Chevaywa yearly meeting where the Friends Quaker church under the united society of friends women (USFW) from across the country had converged for a prayer meeting.
The conference theme was; 'Inner healing taking centre stage as quoted from Luke 4:18 calling on the faithful to worship and serve the true living God alone'.
During the service that was graced by the governor, Barasa requested the church and cohesion within the country noting that the nation was split up politically.
The governor further expressed his frustrations over the delay in the remittance of county funds as they adversely affected the running operations of not only his Kakamega county but all the 47 counties across the country.
“Governors across the country are struggling to complete their various initiated projects and we are subjected to backlash from the electorates for dragging development not knowing that it is the national government that is taking too long to release county funds" he said.
He however called on cabinet secretary for treasury honorable John Mbadi to speed up release of county funds to enable them meet deadlines on projects initiated across the country.
He said the delay has led to many projects within the counties to lag behind schedule from the anticipated completion time frame, saying it has seen many governors perceived as not working at all.
Barasa, who was accompanied by Lugari Mp Nabi Nabwera, assured the Chevaywa residents that the construction on the Sitati junction-Muhomo spring–Kivaywa road will resume next week infrastructure development and promote economic growth in the area.
