Sunrise Children's Home in Kabarnet, Baringo is now appealing to Kenyans of good will to assist a 8-year-old girl, survivor of malnutrition acquire basic education.

Jeptoo Cherutich who now fighting a hearing and skin complications, were together with her elder sister Jebiwott, 12, rescued from remotest Sabor village in Baringo South in June 6, 2019.

They are currently living in Sunrise Children's home in Kabarnet town under the stewardship of facility's founder Mrs Mary Sang.

"Since they were rescued and handed to us not even their single parent or a relative has ever bothered to visit or offered any help" Sang told Rural Times Newspaper Thursday. 

The two were among five starving children saved then by well-wishers from their dilapidated home and rushed to hospital for urgent health examination and treatment.

Their father, Joseph Cheruitch, however said he had already lost two children to malnutrition — a six-year-old on June 2018 and another in 2013.  His wife is mentally ill.

"Personally I have got nothing to offer but I only leave heavenly blessings to anyone extending an helping hand to assist my sick children" Cherutich said.

Mrs Sang, Children's home Director however said they have since been struggling through partners to help the rescued kids among 80 others currently being hosted in the facility access education and medication.

She said Jeptoo being a special need case was recommended by the ministry of education to go and study at Esageri school for the deaf in Mogotio.

"We are now strained as an institution to meet the cost of admitting and retaining her in the special school, therefore we are calling upon well-wishers to chip in and assist" Sang said.

Earlier on, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi heard Jeptoo's heartening story in the media and he rushed to donate some food and non-food items, among them 13 bags of maize, sugar, rice, salt, cooking oil and detergents to the Children's home.

“My coming is purely based on humanitarian grounds,” he said adding, “before I grew up to what I am today, my life wasn’t far from the situation these beautiful young children are undergoing today” he said.

Sang, hosted Sudi and his team and commended them for following up and visiting them.

“I have since my late husband and I started the home in 2003 been working single-handedly to raise the children. But today, I feel so relieved to have friends like you Hon. Sudi, who are willing to partner with us,” Sang said.
