Editors at People Daily say detectives summoned them early Wednesday in connection with the day's edition headline.
Senior Paper Editor, Emeka Gekara Mayaka, however, said the officers failed to give them reason on why they had summoned them.
"It is true that we were summoned. But they couldn't explain to us what is wrong with the story,"Mayaka confided to journalists late Wednesday.
The controversial headline thus read: How Ruto lies killed the Nithi 12" referring to the recent death of several passengers at the Meru road black spot.
Mayaka defended the headline, saying it contained nothing out of the ordinary.
"They couldn't tell us what is wrong with a newspaper telling the truth that a president is lying over the lives of his citizens,"Mayaka said.
