Kenya at the brink of losing the chance to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations

Kenya fears losing the chance to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Tanzania and Uganda.
The country may also be prevented from hosting the 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan).
This comes after Fifa, the world football governing body, warned the East African nation with a second ban for third-party meddling.
Kenny Jeane-Marie, chief member association officer, wrote a letter to FKF secretary general Barry Otieno on Tuesday, instructing the Zurich-based group to call the AGM right away.
The letter observed that the Mombasa High Court's March 15 order, which halted the AGM, looked to be undue influence by third parties.

The High Court decision was in response to a challenge filed by sports journalist Milton Nyakundi, who questioned the federation's legal right to organise the event.
The letter from Fifa went on to say: "As a result, and irrespective of the outcome of the hearing to take action on March 18, 2024, Fifa takes the view that any further attempt by a third party to prevent the FKF AGM from taking place might be considered a violation of to the above-mentioned principle which would oblige our institution to bring the matter to the attention of relevant Fifa bodies for consideration of possible sanctions in line with the statutes."
"Given the foregoing," The FKF is directed to have its AGM soon and to continue preparing towards FKF elections later this year."

Fifa expressed disappointment that the AGM did not go forward as planned, despite the fact that FKF delegates and staff from the world football regulatory body had travelled to Nairobi to participate.
This isn't the first time the country has faced problems. Fifa suspended Kenya from all of its operations in February 2022, following the decision by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to press out-of-office FKF leaders led by President Nick Mwendwa over corruption charges on November 11, 2021.
The world governing body lifted the suspension only on November 28, 2022, when new Sports CS Ababu Namwamba reinstated the FKF in office.
Among the items that were slated to be tackled at the AGM were the FKF elections, which were provisionally scheduled for October.
Meanwhile, Nyakundi chastised FKF for providing a biassed account of the events.
"It is important to clarify a specific factual position that I believe has been consistently misrepresented by the Nick Mwendwa administration in a manner that does not portray the actual situation," Nyakundi said in a statement.
"The decisions taken by Fifa have been informed by sentiments of a source keen on a self-preservation agenda," said the source.
