KAKAMEGA Governor Urges Residents to Register CBOs to Access County Grants Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa has urged residents across the county to register Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and self-help groups so they can benefit from grants offered by the county government.

Speaking at the Malava Municipality Social Grounds during an engagement forum attended by about 350 Community Health Promoters, 600 CYWEB members and local residents the governor reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to empowering grassroots groups.

Responding to concerns raised by Community Health Promoters regarding their shares and stipends, Governor Barasa assured them that all pending payments would be settled in full and that issues affecting their SACCOs would be resolved.

He emphasized that strengthening SACCOs, CBOs and small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remains top priority for his administration.

Kakamega County has about 60 wards, all set to benefit from county grants with each registered group expected to receive approximately KSh 50,000 for development projects and related activities.

The governor noted that Kakamega and the wider Western region have lagged behind in the formation and growth of SACCOs, CBOs and user groups.

The Kakamega County Youth and Women Empowerment (CYWEBs) programme, under the Department of Youth has also encouraged young people and women many of whom work on contract terms to join SACCOs so they can save and access soft loans at affordable rates.

The governor said the initiative aims to uplift local communities by enabling them to start small village level projects that can grow into larger enterprises capable of creating employment for young people.

The engagement was attended by President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, mp malava aspirant David Ndakwa,MCA Manda Shivanga, David Kivish and Kevin Mahelo, who rallied support for a UDA candidate ahead of the Malava by-election scheduled to happen on 27th of this month.
