49 people escape death by a whisker as bus is overwhelmed by floods

APSV bus carrying 49 passengers washed away on the Garissa-Nairobi Highway by violent rains.
The bus, which belonged to the Umma Express Bus Company, was washed away by flooding in the Chuma area during the early hours of Tuesday, April 9.
According to a source, after a significant downpour, Hassan Turbo, the bus driver, tried to cross the flooded portion of the road when they arrived.

Sadly, the bus lost control of its course and became lodged in a ditch. The bus became trapped 30 metres off the highway as a result of the water gradually sweeping it away.

Tana River County Commander Ali Ndiema confirmed the occurrence and stated that every passenger on the bus that was leaving Garissa for Nairobi had been saved.
The passengers were rescued with assistance from a professional rescue squad from the Garissa military and Red Cross.
