Boost for Equality Quest as West Pokot Develops Gender Policy
West Pokot County is in the process to the realization of gender equality through a Gender Policy aimed at empowering women and girls.
West Pokot County First Lady Scovia Kachapin, officially opened a three-day workshop on West Pokot County Gender Policy development in Kitale.
The policy seeks to address gender disparities by setting up systems that promote, prevent and respond to gender discrimination and violations.

The First Lady noted that the policy calls for prioritization of responsive interventions through county programming and budgetary allocations.
“This policy will serve as a roadmap for promoting gender equality, eliminating discrimination, and advancing the rights of women and girls across our county,” said the First Lady.
The workshop, supported by UN Women through Village Enterprise, will see the technical team drawn from the county and various partners, develop the policy and fine tune it before being presented to the cabinet and later, the county assembly for ratification.

The forum brought together partners among them Declares Kenya, Jitokezee Wamama Afrika, World Vision , Action Against Hunger (ACF), CDGG, Sikom, Impact Generation Africa (IGA), CEC Lucky Litole, Chief Officer Paul Lalat (Gender), Principal Tourism Officer William Petang’ole (Tourism & Culture) among other county officials.
