National Day sees Planting of 4000 Trees Makueni
Effort to achieve president Dr William Ruto's vision of growing 15 billion trees by 2030.

Makueni residents Friday joined the rest of Kenyans to commemorate the national tree planting day.
The county received immense support from the national government in an effort to achieve president Dr William Ruto's vision of growing 15 billion trees by 2030.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi visited the county in an effort to promote growing of trees where he led the exercise at Makongo view point accompanied by Governor Mutula Kilonzo junior.
The county conducted two growing exercises with the other exercise at Kiu wetland in Kibwezi sub-county led by the county's cabinet secretary for trade Dr. Sonia Nzilani.
She was accompanied by administration officers and a group officer's from NEMA, KFS and KEFRI.
According to Vincent Oloo, the NEMA county director, the exercise saw planting of 4000 trees and watering of trees earlier last year launched at Kiu wetland area by president Dr. William Ruto.
During the visit, Ruto emphasized on the importance of tree growing in the country where he launched the initiative of growing 15billion trees by 2030.
In bid to curb drought in the region, Oloo also emphasized on the importance of growing drought resistant crops by farmers at the region as many of the areas in the region receive low rainfall.
During the exercise, the county cabinet secretary for trade , Dr Sonia, also emphasized the growing of the trees as a way of attracting rainfall in the region.
"We're not only planting trees but growing trees," Sonia said as she emphasized on the taking care of the trees after planting. Locals around Kiu catchment area turned up in large numbers for the planting exercise.
