Orders issued against grazing livestock in natural forests

Kenya Forest Service(KFS) opens a new office in Kibwezi, Makueni county in bid to boost security of its rangers.
KFS CEO Alex Lemarkoko, while launching the office funded by the Kenya Railways Corporation(KRC), he said rangers have been facing insecurity while discharging their duties in makeshift tents.

"Our officers use to operate in tents mounted in forests inhabited by wild animals, which has been a major security concern" Lemarkoko said.
However, he said the office structure will enhance security for both wild animals and the rangers.
"The locals around will also be able to graze their livestock freely" KFS boss said.
Lemarkoko further warned residents grazing their animals in the gazetted natural forests saying it is outlawed.
"Grazing is only allowed in deforestated land bearing trees older than four years, but under strict conditions" he said.
